Privacy Policy

Effective Date: September 4, 2025
Company: Skystone Education Inc. (“Skystone,” “we,” “our,” “us”)

Skystone Education Inc. is committed to protecting the privacy of educators, schools, parents, and students. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial laws. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal information — with additional safeguards for student data.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to deliver our educational programs:

  • Educator & School Information: names, emails, phone numbers, billing, and school/organization details.

  • Student Information (with consent): first name, grade/age, learning reflections, travel-related information (for Safari), and activity participation data.

  • Technical Data: device/browser type, IP address, usage analytics (with cookies).

We do not knowingly collect sensitive identifiers (e.g., Social Insurance Numbers, health records, financial details of students).

2. Principles of Student Data Protection

Because our Services involve minors, Skystone applies the highest safeguards:

  • Student data is never sold, rented, or shared for advertising.

  • Student information is collected only with school or parental/guardian consent.

  • Student data is used exclusively for educational purposes and improving program delivery.

  • Parents and schools retain full rights of access, correction, and deletion of student records.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide and improve our programs (e.g., ARLO reflections, PEGASUS curriculum, POLARIS training).

  • Support safe travel and activity participation.

  • Manage licensing, billing, and school administration.

  • Comply with Canadian legal and regulatory requirements.

We do not use student data for profiling, marketing, or unrelated research.

4. Data Security Measures

We implement industry-standard and education-specific safeguards:

  • Encryption in Transit & Storage: All student and educator data is encrypted (TLS 1.2+ for transmission, AES-256 at rest).

  • Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC): Only authorized educators and Skystone staff with verified clearance can access student data.

  • Two-Factor Authentication: Required for Skystone staff and admin access to systems.

  • Regular Security Audits: Systems undergo internal security checks and third-party audits annually.

  • Canadian Hosting Priority: Whenever possible, student data is stored on servers located in Canada. If international storage is required, providers must meet or exceed PIPEDA standards.

5. Retention & Deletion

  • Student data is retained only for the duration of the program or contract term.

  • Schools or parents may request deletion of student data at any time.

  • Upon contract expiry, student data is securely deleted or anonymized within 90 days.

  • Backups containing personal data are automatically purged after 180 days.

6. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party providers (e.g., cloud storage, hardware suppliers, travel partners). Each provider must:

  • Sign a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with Skystone.

  • Maintain equal or stronger safeguards than PIPEDA requires.

  • Not use student data for their own purposes.

7. Rights of Access and Control

Under Canadian law, you may:

  • Access and review your personal or student information.

  • Correct inaccurate records.

  • Withdraw consent or request deletion of student data.

  • Request details on how and where your data is stored.

Requests are fulfilled within 30 days of verification.

8. Breach Notification

In the unlikely event of a data breach involving student or educator information:

  • Affected schools and parents will be notified without unreasonable delay.

  • We will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) as required by PIPEDA.

  • Affected parties will receive information about the breach, potential risks, and mitigation steps.
